Biography:
Gene Cooper, is an interactive installation and performance artist
focused on exploring the relationships existing between the natural
systems of the body and ecology as mediated through technology. Cooper's
work takes the form of interactive installations and performances which
focus on the connections between systems of the body such as breathing,
heartbeats, electrical impulses, etc. and natural or environmental systems
such as lightning, water dynamics, ecosystemic properties, etc.
In 1993, Cooper received his B.F.A. Degree from The Kansas City Art
Institute with emphasis in Photography / Video. In 1996, Cooper received
his M.F.A Degree from Arizona State University majoring in Intermedia.
During his studies at ASU, he worked as a graphic designer, programmer, and artist
at the Institute for Studies in the Arts (now known as AME Arts Media
and Engineering...http://ame.asu.edu/)
In 1997, Cooper took a position as Media Lab Co-Manager at the Institute
for Studies in the Arts and went on later to work in Atlanta for an
e-commerce firm. In 2000, Cooper returned to ASU to work at AME as an
arts researcher and professor and later took a position at PRISM Partnership
for Research in Stereo Modeling http://prism.asu.edu as a researcher and project specialist.
Cooper is currently the president
of Four Chambers Studio which specializing in development of photographic
VR interactive content for National Parks. Clients include the Grand Canyon Association, Everglades Association, Mammoth Cave National Park, Grand Tetons Association and National Park, Western National Parks Association, Phoenix Arts Commission, Mesa Arts Center, Arizona State University, and many more primary non-profit organizations focused on the arts and environmental work.
Cooper has a long history of collaboration including work with the Center for Disease Control (CDC), PRISM and AME at Arizona State University, ACM Siggraph Guerilla Studio, International Dance and Technology Symposium, Bureau of Land
Management, National Park Service, Army Core of Engineers, Black Rock City LLC (Burning Man), and numerous individual collaborations with artists, researchers, doctors, and professors from around the globe.
Cooper currently serves as a board
member of the International Virtual Reality Photographers Association (http://www.ivrpa.org/), is a member of the National Association of Interpretation (http://www.interpnet.com/)and provides vendor support for the Association of Partners for Public Lands (http://www.appl.org/)
