YOU x 360 docments the incredible people, outfits, and
wearable art of Burning Man. The installation provides
the opportunity for individuals or groups of people
to photograph themselves in a 360 degree format. The
format provides photographic views from all directions
made possible through a human- and computer-powered
system of lights, cameras, computer interface, physical
structure, and rotating platform. Participants walk
away not only with a printed record of themselves but
all the materials to make an animated flipbook to share
with others. Its all about you, hope, and a vision to
take into the future.
About the Flipbooks:
After each series of photos was recorded, a 2 page flipbook template with all of the photos would be printed onsite automatically. Of course, at Burning Man nothing there are always technical complications. In this case, the paper feed roller on the printer would frequently dry out and our crew did a fantastic job attempting to keep it running 24x7. Each set of printouts would allow the participants to cut out the individual series of photos and assemble the set into a flipbook bound together by a binder clip provided onsite. Some chose to take their flipbooks back to camp and keep, some decided to staples them to the wall for others to see.
For particpants at Burning Man 2006:
Did
you see this installation at Burning Man? Did you ride
the platform and make a flipbook? If so, we hope you
had a good time and enjoyed the installation!
If you are one of the lucky ones, you got your very
own set of flipbook printouts of YOU at Burning Man
having a great time.
Photos from the Installation...
We had hoped to have all of the images from the project
available to you online after the event. Unfortunately,
we were only able to record a few hours of images for
some mysterious reason. Maybe playa, maybe heat, maybe
the gods...not sure. The lucky time period during the
event was late Thursday afternoon. View the full set
of photos below to see if your images were in fact recorded
and gods shined on you that day.
